Parish News and Announcements

A marvellous Parish retreat was had by all at Keswick last weekend. In an atmosphere of stunning natural beauty, we celebrated times of prayer, sharing and relaxation. The retreat was excellently led by Katie Flood, who with great sensitivity engaged us all as we reflected on our journey through life as individuals, and as Parish. We didn’t take ourselves too seriously though, as we enjoyed each other’s company walking the local Lake, or rambling through Keswick and relaxing evenings . Thanks to everyone for your generosity of Spirit, and a special thanks to Katie, whose leadership skills increase year by year. My gratitude to our Capuchin Brothers for allowing me the freedom to be a part of the retreat.

Our International Meal is this Sunday after the 10.30 Mass. Always a great occasion

for sharing diversity, especially of a culinary nature. Thanks again to our feeders!

Don’t forget what looks like a very exciting evening at St. Godric’s next Tuesday.

If you haven’t got a ticket, you can pay at the door.

Our parish ceilidh is next Saturday the 15th. Tickets are available. It’ll be a great

parish event. Dispensation from all Lenten fasting, penitential exercise such as the

wearing of hair shirts etc are given for this one occasion.

Stations of the Cross each Friday through Lent at 7.00pm alternating in both our

churches beginning with St Godric’s.

“Have patience with all things, but first of all with yourself.”

St. Francis de Sales

A quote from Pope Francis:

"The Way of the Cross alone defeats sin, evil and death, for it leads to the radiant

light of Christ's resurrection and opens the horizons of a new and fuller life. It is the

way of hope, the way of the future. Those who take up this way with generosity and

faith give hope and a future to humanity."

Address at Via Crucis in Blonia Park, Krakow, Poland, July 30, 2016.

Don’t forget Exposition on Sunday afternoons at 3 at St Godric’s as a possible Lenten

exercise.

The Season of Lent

Do you want to fast?

Fast from hurting words and say kind words.

Fast from sadness and be filled with gratitude.

Fast from anger and be filled with patience.

Fast from pessimism and be filled with hope.

Fast from worries and have trust in God.

Fast from complaints and contemplate simplicity.

Fast from pressures and be prayerful.

Fast from bitterness and fill your heart with joy.

Fast from selfishness and be compassionate to others.

Fast from grudges and be reconciled.

Fast from words and be silent so you can listen.

We have a parish council meeting next Tuesday. Please let me know if you have any issues you’d like raised. Nothing trivial, mind you.

Our annual parish retreat is next weekend in Keswick. We look forward to it more and more each year.

Mary Harrison steps down from her role as Chair of The Buildings’ Committee. Can I thank Mary for the meticulous guidance she has given us over the years.

Our next International Meal is now planned. Please see the bulletin for further information.

I hope the two meetings for Readers and Ministers of the Eucharist were helpful to all who attended. I found them very helpful. Great suggestions that were helpful to me, too. Clarity for both ministries. As the sound advice given to a young curate by his PP echoes, ‘ know when to stand up, speak up and shut up’. New Mass Books are being ordered for both churches. Again, my thanks to those who so generously donated for this purpose, especially one very large donation.
