The poem below has been written by one of our parishioners – James Gilman – and has been used in services at Durham Cathedral and elsewhere. It has also been accepted by the British Army and the Royal Navy for use in military bases around the world and has been added to the Royal British Legion's list for possible use in future National Remembrance Services. A wonderful achievement.

THE POPPIES PRAYER

The poppies fall.

Their crimson tears

Like shrapnel, piercing every heart

Of those who mourn the dying blood

Enshrouding friend and foe alike

On Flanders Field.

So scour our conscience

With your flood

Till we ensure that never more

Shall nations let Death’s bloody dance

Seduce the souls of friend and foe.

Like Flanders Field

Agenda for Lantern Procession

We're looking forward to our lantern procession this Saturday, we hope to see you there.

The plan is (please note times are approximate)

* 6:20 - 6:30 Meet at St Leonard's (N End, Durham DH1 4NG)

* 6:30 - 7:00 walk from St Leonard's to St Godric's Church

* 7:00 - 7:45 (at the latest) Activities at St Godric's

Parish Youth Group Lantern prayers

The youth group in our parish are preparing lanterns for our procession this Saturday. Their lanterns have beautiful prayers we would like to share with you, we invite you to join them in their prayers:

- I pray for the families that have no one to pray for them.

- I pray for the people who are stressed that they find out how to enjoy their life.

- we pray for the children who don't know where their parents are.
