St Joseph's Catholic Primary School

On Wednesday 22^nd October the children will be attending church at 10am for a Whole School Mass. All friends and families are welcome to attend.

On Friday 24th October we will be ending our Autumn half term with a ' Be the light' disco in school. It will start at 3.30pm- 5.30pm. The children can bring clothes to change into, and tickets will be available to buy from the office.

Food and refreshments will be available to buy at the event.

St Godric's Catholic Primary School

We have our Y4 Mini Vinnie Commissioning prayer service at 2.30pm on Monday 20^th October. Any parishioners who would like to join us, would be very welcome.

St Thomas More Catholic Primary School

The idea behind them is to extend the children's learning and knowledge (from what they learn in the school curriculum) about the blessed Sacrament of Reconciliation and the Sacrament of the Eucharist. Please contact St. Thomas More school office, for more information, or if you think you could assist.

We look forward to seeing our previous students, at the Year 7 St. Leonard's Welcome Mass. This will take place on Thursday 23^rd October at 6pm in St. Joseph's Church. We hope our children and families can join us at this, always lovely, celebration.

Finally, the friends of St. Thomas More are hosting a candy floss and toffee apple making session and a Halloween Disco on Tuesday 21^st and Thursday 23^rd October. We're so lucky to have the wonderful support of these families, on the PTA, who can help organise and run these exciting activities. We always need the additional support and implore anyone, who can give up a little bit of time to support our school, to get in contact with our PTA chair or the school office.

Year 7 Mass of Welcome: We will be celebrating all our Year 7 pupils at our annual Mass of Welcome, on Thursday 23^rd October. Mass will take place at 6pm at St. Joseph’s Church, Gilesgate. More information will be shared on our social media and via Arbor to our Year 7 families.

We would like to thank all of the families who kindly donated to our Harvest Festival with hats, scarves and gloves for the charity Sanctuary 21. Every donation, big or small, makes a significant difference and your kindness brings us one step closer to creating a lasting change.

On Friday 17^th October we will be wearing red to support and raise awareness for the charity Show Racism the Red Card. The children in school will be learning lots about the cause and taking part in workshops and activities.

After a lovely Parish welcome last Sunday, our Y4 children had their first catechist-led Sacramental Preparation session on Monday. This week, we also welcomed Lynn Hobson from UK Parliament into school to deliver an assembly all about democracy and government work in the UK. Year 6 are off to PGL for their outdoor adventure residential next week - please keep them in your prayers.

St. Thomas More School are still seeking some volunteers, amongst our catechists or parishioners, to help run some sessions to Year 4, ahead of their First Holy Communion Preparation. These sessions would be run every few weeks, after school, from 3:30pm until 4:30pm. The idea behind them is to extend the children's learning and knowledge (from what they learn in the school curriculum) about the blessed Sacrament of Reconciliation and the Sacrament of the Eucharist.

St Joseph's Catholic Primary School

We would like to thank everyone in the school and parish community for their generous donations who supported the Macmillan Coffee Morning in school. It was a resounding success, and we are delighted to say that we raised £200 for such an amazing charity and another £65 from the raffle for St Cuthbert's Care.

On Monday 6^th October our youngest children would love your prayers as they start the beginning of their learning journey. Nursery and Reception would like to invite friends and families to the Welcome Liturgy at 9am. All are welcome to attend.

On Friday 10^th October it is World Mental Health Day and we will all be wearing yellow to show children and young people they’re not alone with their mental health. The children will be raising money to install a 'Happy to Chat' bench in the school yard and to ' TURN THE BENCH YELLOW' . This will encourage people to sit down and have a conversation with others. These benches give people an opportunity to connect and interact with each other. Our next aim is to install ' Happy to Chat' benches along the driveway for our friends and families to enjoy.

At 2.45pm on Friday 10^th October we would like to invite friends and families to school for a Harvest Festival Celebration of the Word. Any donations of hats, scarves and gloves would be kindly received and donated to Sanctuary 21 to support the vulnerable people in and around the North East.

We welcome some of our Year 4 children and their families to Mass this weekend as we start our First Holy communion preparation. The children will then attend their first catechist led session on Monday after school.'

Our Holistic Curriculum focus next week is ‘Mental: Awareness of how to help ourselves mentally’. As part of this focus Mrs Stewart will be doing assemblies on aspirations and how these can bring us a positive and confidence frame of mind.

We mark World Mental Health Day in school on Friday 10^th October. Our Year 13 tutor groups will also celebrate their pupil led Celebration of the Word on Monday morning which ties into the Holistic theme on ‘Hope and healing’.

We also have our Sixth Form Opening Evening on Thursday 9^th October from 6pm. All those who are interested in attending our Sixth Form are welcome to come and see our amazing departments and achievements.
